Jumpstart mission -- complete

I finished the jumpstart for the Flat Belly Diet. It was lack luster, left me feeling hungry, and I was peeing like crazy. I lost 3 pounds but I feel like I didn't eat enough. I wanted to snack and I felt like the meals weren't always big enough to leave me feeling satisfied.

I tried being good/healthy this weekend (that was my original PLAN) but a trip to the hospital on friday made it so that all I could really eat was broth based liquid foods and sherbert. I did eat Mac and Cheese on Friday night but I ended up feeling really sick after. So basically I starved myself this weekend.... smoothies are my friend!

My relationship with FOOD

Despite the fact that I cheated all weekend, I still have a good relationship with food. I went out of town and I was eating whatever was fed to me or put on the table. Friday night it was a couple slices of Papa John's pizza, Saturday I had leftovers, turkey, salad, and mashed potatoes, Sunday I started getting back on track.

I have friends who have terrible diets. One friend tries to lose weight by eating carrots for a whole weekend, taking laxatives, drinking water all day and not eating, and then stuffs herself. After big meals she feels SO guilty about eating and fasts the rest of the day. Another friend is a vegetarian who doesn't eat veggies or fruit. Most of her diet is pasta, milk, potatoes, cheese, and gatorade. As long as I don't eat like either of them, I will be OK.

Today I re-followed the first day of the Flat Belly jumpstart. So far so good. I felt a little hungry between lunch and snack time so I munched on a 100 cal pack of pretzels. That's about it. I had to go back to the grocery store to buy more milk because this diet has me going through more of it than usual.

My new dress...

I've been on a dress hunt for the last 4-5 days. College graduation is coming up and so is my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary. I need a cute dress or outfit but the problem is I hate how I look right now. Dresses are flattering because they don't factor in your legs in the size. I wear a size 10-12 in jeans but my dress size is a 6-8. To save myself the trouble of realizing a size 11 is tight, I will get a dress.

Day 1 of the dress spree
I searched online for dresses. I look at David's Bridal (they have party dresses), JCPenny, Macys, WetSeal, Charlotte Russe, New York and Company, and Forever 21. I found a few dresses that were in my very small price range and headed to the mall.

JCPenny is under construction so I steered clear of the store because I wasn't in the mood to try and find where they put the junior's dress department. Macy's was lack luster because all the dress styles I liked we too sparkly and too PROM. I did find one woman's dress that I liked but they didn't have my size (6 in womans, 8-12 juniors). I walked through the mall to Gottschalks but I found out they don't have a huge juniors dress department like Macys and JCPenny. I did find a cute purple dress but the material made it so you could see every curve of my butt (crack included). That was definitely a NO. After a discouraging trip to the mall I gave up and decided to go back another day.

2 days later...
I went to Mervyn's at the other mall in town and walked out without trying on anything. I drove BACK to the other mall and tried again. David's Bridal didn't have the dress I wanted in stock and even if they did they only had it in a metallic silver/black. They tried to get me to try on a few other dresses but I wasn't interested. It was very flattering though because the sales girl was like, "Oh well, let me get you a dress that is similar. You are a size....4?" I just said, "Try doubling that." She seemed shocked but is was probably just an act. For ego sake I will say that it wasn't an act... damnit! I am a size 4.... *cough*8*cough*

I decided to brave JCPenny and they had a lot to choose from. I'm not really into the loud colored floral patterns and the disco looking dresses they had but I found the dress I liked online. I tried on three dresses and determined that none of them were good for my body type. Those parachute dresses are not flattering AT ALL.

Charlotte Russe had some cute dresses. I found this turquoise and cream dress, tried it on and got majorly stuck. The dress went over my boobs and bra just fine but coming back over wasn't too great. I am a universal medium, everywhere I go I can grab a medium and it will fit me just right. Lately a medium has gotten tight. I ended up getting the dress off without breaking anything or splitting any seams but I got really angry and left the mall. It was see through anyway so it doesn't matter how cute or small the dress was.

The next day...
I decided Wet Seal didn't have anything appropriate so I skipped them. A couple days before I walked through Forever 21 to get back to my car and I decided they didn't have anything. But then I walked by the store front and saw a mannequin that had a dress I loved. I spent 40 minutes searching the store for that dress and found that they had two left. A medium and a large. I grabbed both and marched to the dressing room. From my experience the day before I decided that even though the dress was a zip up I would try the large on first. To my excitement the dress was WAY too big. The medium was a hair too small but for $29 I couldn't pass it up. So I am now the proud owner of a new dress. I went to Payless Shoes and got a pair of white shoes to kind of match it and went on my way.

I will prevail over the dress....

Flat Belly Diet

Ok so I am starting something new -- The Flat Belly Diet. Yes, it is the newest fad diet but hey it sounds like a balanced plan.

Yesterday I was supposed to follow "Day 1" of the jumpstart diet but I was at work through lunch. One of the big things to avoid is gassy foods. Ha! What did I end up eating? Mexican food, refried beans and all. BUT I did lose 1 pound of water weight because I was peeing nonstop all day long.

Day 1
Breakfast: Unsweetened Cornflakes w/ milk. Unsweetened applesauce and sunflower seeds. One glass of "Sassy Water" (water with cucumber, lemon, ginger, and mint) I felt great after breakfast because it was filling. Usually I only have a little breakfast. I tried the sassy water for the first time and it was actually really good. It smelled like lemons but had a cucumber taste. I slurped down 2 glasses at breakfast.

Lunch: 4 oz turkey, 1 string cheese, 1/2 pt of grape tomatoes, Sassy Water I cheated. I have a cheese enchilada, refried beans, rice, and half a chicken taco. I wonder why I'm overweight...

Snack: Blueberry smoothie (1c milk, 1c blueberries) Didn't have the smoothie because I cheated so badly. I ate some raw sliced almonds instead.

Dinner: Fresh green beans, 4oz tilapia, red potato My tilapia was eeeh, the potato was good, and the green beans were from the freezer. I felt hungry after dinner but resisted the urges!

So aside from the fact that I majorly cheated yesterday, I feel pretty good. You are supposed to walk after every meal for 5 minutes but I didn't do that after lunch or dinner. I think I need to restart the jumpstart and do it right this time.

I'm not technically overweight...

...but BMI says that I am. I am 5'6" and I weigh 155. My BMI is 25.01 which is .20 over the suggested healthy BMI.

I've always been considered "bigger". Before I hit 13 I was taller than most kids I knew therefore I was heavier. In middle school I was in the "unlimited" group for track because I was 5'6" and 130 pounds. My peers called me fat continously and it pissed me off. I hid behind baggy clothes and a cup o'noodle. Of course I got boobs (they ruin so many lives... ha!) and gained weight. My lifetime high is 185 pounds and I hit that during my first year of college after getting shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff.

I did one of those fad detox diets, The Cabbage Soup Diet. I lost the weight they promised I would lose (17 pounds, from 185 to 169) but my period stopped for 3 months, I felt like shit, and I wasn't sleeping. That's just not right. I lost about 10 pounds from that point til xmas.

On Jan 1, 2007 I started Weight Watchers. I wrote down everything I ate and lost 20 pounds (155 to 135) before the end of March. Ah... then alcohol got introduced to my life (my 21st birthday) and now I am "fat" and sassy at 155 pounds again. Well alcohol wasn't the only thing. I can't walk to campus anymore because I live too far away and I'm eating like a COW, just add meat to the mix.
